5 Places to Get Coffee in Sydney, Australia
Having just come from Melbourne (which is known as the coffee capital of Australia), we had been spoiled with amazing coffee all week. When we got to Sydney, we made a list of some popular cafes and tried one or two each day. Here is a list of our favorites!
Paramount Coffee Project
Only a few days before we left for our trip this summer, it was Nick’s birthday. Because Nick loves film, I found a cool theater called Golden Age Cinema. Apparently it used to be Paramount Pictures headquarters and the basement was a small theater they used to show viewings of their new movies. It’s now just used as a theater and bar, with a cafe upstairs. I bought tickets ahead of time (since there are only like 40 seats!) and we watched Bicycle Thieves, which was such a great movie! We went upstairs to where Paramount Coffee Project was but it was already closed - it closes at 4pm each day. We were super disappointed so on our last morning on Sydney, we made sure to stop by. Nick got a cappuccino and a croissant. I ordered the maple iced coffee with almond milk - and it was one of the best coffees I had in Sydney!
Gertrude and Alice
This was our first stop during our day in Bondi (link). It’s the cutest bookstore with a coffee shop when you first walk in. Like many cafes in Australia, there were no to-go cups so you had to bring your own or drink it in. We were happy to drink it there while we read - Nick read 1984 and I flipped through some of the books for sale. There wasn’t much seating so we ended up sharing a table but that didn’t bother us!
Philosophy Cafe
We chose to go to this cafe because it was only a few minutes away from our apartment. We both ordered cappuccinos and they came with these cute little teddy grahams!
Single O
There are several different Several O locations around the city. We chose to go to the one in the CBD because it was on our way to a couple museums we wanted to check out. (Link) They are super ethical, some locations even providing reusable travel mugs to borrow! We loved supporting this business and we found out later that they also have a location in Tokyo - so cool! Maybe we’ll visit that one someday...
Brewtown
Brewtown is located in Newtown (link), where we spent our last full day in Sydney, to celebrate the 4th of July! There is a full menu which looked amazing but we just had coffee. The staff was so friendly and even let Nick charge his phone behind the counter while we read our books!
