Exploring Sydney Harbour
We were so excited to start exploring Sydney and the first thing we thought of was obviously the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. We were staying at an Airbnb right next to Hyde Park and planned a walking trip all the way across the bridge. It turned out to be several miles, but it was pretty warm that day (since it was July, it was winter in Australia!), so we didn’t mind walking.
We started by walking across the Sydney Harbour Bridge, which gives a fantastic view of the Opera House and the entire harbour. It was much longer than I thought but we kept stopping to take pictures and we chatted the whole time about our future travels. Why do we always get the strongest wanderlust while we are travelling?
On the other side of the bridge, we found Luna Park. We saw Luna Park when we were in Melbourne, but this time we actually went into the park. The entrance is free so we wandered around. It was so fun! If we had more time (and more money), we might have tried out a few rides, but nothing stood out to us. It was just fun to be there!
After Luna Park, we took the ferry to the Circular Quay, passing right by the Opera House! It was so unreal to see such an iconic sight in person! It was beautiful out on the water but the ferry only took a few minutes to get there. From Circular Quay, we walked through the Royal Botanical Garden. Entrance is free and the place is huge and so gorgeous. We couldn’t believe that this was just a free park. We spent quite a bit of time here and still did not see everything - a lot of walking/biking paths and different flower gardens, including a succulent garden, which unfortunately we only glimpsed as we were leaving.
We got to Mrs. Macquirie’s Point, which has a sandstone rock that you can climb up and sit on. We got there a little before sunset and watched the silhouette of the bridge and the Opera House. It was gorgeous! Unfortunately we couldn’t see the actual sunset because the park closed at 5pm.
After that, we took the long walk back to our Airbnb. It was such a fun day exploring the harbour.
