Sydney: Bondi Beach
One of the things we were most excited about was doing the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk. We decided to spend the morning in Bondi and then do the walk, which is almost 4 miles, and head back from Coogee.
We started out at a cute cafe/bookstore called Gertrude and Alice. We got coffee and read our own books, although I couldn’t help flipping through some of the books they had there. Something we loved about Gertrude and Alice was that there were no to-go cups. You had to bring your own travel mug or just sit in, which we noticed was also common in the cafes in Melbourne. There was limited seating so we ended up sharing a table with another customer, but that didn’t bother us!
After a while of reading, we went to Funky Pies, which we’d been wanting to try forever! Australia is known for its savory pies, similar to chicken pot pies, but with different meats and vegetables. This restaurant only has vegan pies, and they were amazing! Nick got their most popular kind, called the Funky Chunky pie, and I got the gluten free G’day Satay. We both got the “mash” (mashed potatoes) with gravy and peas. All vegan and so delicious. Nick had tried other pies while in Australia, but he said this one was the best!
After this, we started our walk. There were so many little beaches that people were swimming at since it was an unusually hot day, but we stayed on the path. This is a pretty popular walk so the path was pretty congested for the first bit, but after Bronte Beach, most people turned around, and we were practically alone for the rest of the walk. We kept stopping to look for whales (I’m pretty sure I saw one), take pictures, and climb out onto the cliffs. It was such a beautiful walk! If we had known it was going to be warm, we would have brought our swimsuits.
By the time we were done the walk, we were ready to go home. It was such a long day, but one of the best ones!
